Arethusa is a member of the China class of roses. When Western explorers first visited China and the far East, they discovered roses that bloomed more than one season of the year. Before that, there had been only one species of rose in Europe that rebloomed in the fall. All other European roses bloomed only in the spring. It was China roses that gave many other rose types the ability to rebloom within a given year.
